俚语：“在行、有一手”

棒球有“美国国球”之称。或许，一本“棒球百科全书”比一本简单的字典更能反映美国文化。
据《迪克逊新棒球词典》（Paul Dickson所著）记载，俚语“have on the ball”源于棒球运动，指的
是“某人有一手，做某事很在行”。

“Have on the ball”最早出现于20世纪初，用来形容棒球手出手不凡，击球、投球、守球以及跑垒和
偷垒样样精通，赛场上能完全控制局势，令对手“望球生畏”。当然，由“have on the ball”，我们
还可衍生出一系列短语：have something on the ball（有些能耐）；have nothing on the ball（不
中用）；have much on the ball（很有一手，很能干）。

另外，“on the ball”还可和其它动词如stay、keep和be连用，依据具体语境表示“提防”、“机灵”、
“勤奋”或“能干”…… 看几个例句：

He will do well in that work because he has a lot on the ball.（他很有一手，肯定能做好这件事。）
As a politician, you must be on the ball in the election.（你是一名政治家，必须在选举中时刻警惕。）
Her typing is on the ball.（她打字顶呱呱。）
